If you search the internet for “exercise for seniors” Google will summarize seniors’s needs:
- Endurance, or aerobic, activities increase your breathing and heart rate. Brisk walking or jogging, dancing, swimming, and biking are examples.
- Strength exercises make your muscles stronger. …
- Balance exercises help prevent falls.
- Flexibility exercises stretch your muscles and can help your body stay limber
Of course yoga in general provides many of these activities to keep senior’s bodies moving and supple. However often headstand is avoided.
Sirsasana, or headstand, has many benefits as a low-impact aerobic work out, strengthens muscles, and increases balance. The headstand bench makes the pose accessible to those who may not have good balance to begin with.
By using the headstand bench more seniors may be able to add sirsasana to their regular fitness regime.
